Many people have asked me why I name this section Finances at Work. When I started my career as a Mortgage Planning Specialist it didn't take long to see how people looked at their finances. When I would go over their long term financial goals, everyone would talk about the importance of saving for retirement and putting together a diversified portfolio to encourage growth and minimize large losses. After finishing talking about their goals, I would ask what their largest financial asset was. The answer would always be their home. The retirement goal for them was to leave their largest asset, their home, completely out of their financial plan. Most people would talk about eliminating their mortgage payment as a key to their retirement. Finances at Work changes that. My plan shows people how to use their largest asset to the fullest potential. The question is if you could build greater wealth by NOT paying off your mortgage, would you want to know? My system helps empower you to put all of your finances to work and create your own family bank. The system is a safe and conservative method of creating a tax arbitrage on your home. Even the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago is noting the mistake several people are making. A recent abstract stated, We show that a significant number of households can perform a tax arbitrage by cutting back on their additional mortgage payments and increasing their contributions to tax deferred accounts. Using data from the Survey of Consumer Finances, we show that about 38% of U.S. households that are accelerating their mortgage payments instead of saving in tax deferred accounts are making the WRONG choice.
